Information

The Iakovos Kambanellis Theatre Museum is a treasured attraction located in Naxos Chora, specifically on Grotta Beach. This museum is dedicated to the renowned theatrical playwright, lyricist, screenwriter, journalist, and academic, Iakovos Kambanellis.

Since the summer of 2016, the museum has been operating in a historic stone building in Kambanellis' hometown. Visitors to the theatre museum have the opportunity to admire personal belongings of Kambanellis and explore archival materials generously donated by his daughter, Katerina Kambanelli. The museum also houses his office, library, academic robes from the Universities of Cyprus and Thessaloniki, as well as prestigious awards and honors, including the Academy of Athens medal and the award from the President of the Hellenic Republic.

Additionally, the museum features an array of items such as posters, performance programs, miniature sculptures, portraits, sketches, and digitized interviews with Kambanellis. Visitors can also enjoy screenings of films written or directed by Kambanellis on a weekly basis. The museum further organizes theatre workshops for both children and adults, aiming to explore the connection between ancient drama and contemporary theatrical texts.
