Information

The old olive press of Markos Vallindras, located in the village of Kaloxylos in Naxos, is a significant attraction on the island. This historic site offers visitors a glimpse into the tools and processes used for olive processing and olive oil production. Additionally, it showcases the first electricity generator in the region, which powered three nearby villages by utilizing the movement of the millstones. Remarkably, this generator still remains at the site where the inaugural electricity company of Naxos operated from 1923 to 1940.

Today, the old olive press functions as a museum and is housed within a beautifully restored building owned by the Vallindra family in Kaloxylos, approximately 16 km from Naxos Town. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the museum, learn about olive oil production techniques employed over a century ago, and even sample local products and olive oil.

Additionally, the museum also serves as a café after the conclusion of tours.
