Melanes Valley

Melanes Valley is a picturesque and verdant valley situated in the central region of the island. The valley is renowned for its abundant water sources and lush greenery, which include several streams and springs. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and a short hike from Kourounochori takes visitors to "Flerio", the ancient quarry where the famous Kouros statue is located.

Visitors can also find an ancient aqueduct in the area that was constructed during different time periods, including the archaic and Roman periods, and was used to transport water from the Flerio area to Naxos Town. Parts of the aqueduct are visible along the road to Chora.
