Filoti is the largest village on Naxos and is built amphitheatrically at the foot of Mount Zas, the highest mountain in the Cyclades. The village is surrounded by olive groves and is a lively destination with shops, restaurants, cafes, and bars, as well as festivals and fiestas. The Panagia Protothroni Church, the largest Byzantine church on Naxos, with impressive murals dating back to the 9th-10th century, is located here.
Visitors can also find cultural attractions, including an ancient-style sports and entertainment theater, a cenotaph honoring war heroes, and the Filoti Association Cultural Center, home to a library, cinema, and reading club. Filoti is also home to the Chimaros Tower, a 4th-century BC tower that was initially 17 meters high.
Filoti is an ideal destination for trekking enthusiasts, situated below Mount Zas. At an altitude of 600 meters, visitors can explore the Cave of Zas, believed to have been a refuge for Zeus when pursued by his father, Kronus. The cave features remarkable geological formations such as stalagmites and stalactites.
